Plitvice Lakes National Park is a forested mountain region with a chain of 16 small and large crystal blue and green lakes. Because of its exceptional beauty of lakes, waterfalls and cascades, rich flora, fauna and its surroundings, in 1949 was enlisted on UNESCO’s world heritage list and is one of Europe’s most beautiful national parks. NP Plitvice has the largest waterfall in Croatia, Veliki slap, which is 78 meters high. The park is one of the most popular Croatian tourist destinations, and it keeps its doors open all year round as there are scenes from nature that are equally stunning no matter the season. A real special sight are travertine barriers that connect the crystal blue and green lakes, created over a period of ten thousand years.
