When talking about Korcula, the most frequently used terms are ‘small Dubrovnik’ or the birthplace of Marco Polo. However, the island is so much more than that. It is known by its knight game i.e. dance named Moreška dance which is performed on Korcula since 15th century. Korcula is also associated with numerous legends like the one about the forbidden love between Nera and her Antonio. Apparently, those numerous sea cliffs that surround Korcula appeared to protect the beach where the young lovers would meet. Korcula is an island of surprises where you can still look for gold coins which, according to the legend, local youths scattered around after they realized that the Greek sailors took most of the gold from the stone sphere next to the St. Ivan’s church, a sphere that everyone before them failed to open.
